Pregnancy skin: skincare for changing skin during pregnancy

Hormonal changes can make your skin more sensitive, unsettled and prone to pigmentation during pregnancy. Pregnancy skin needs a safe routine that helps calm redness and blemishes, supports the skin barrier and protects your skin against visible pigmentation every day.
What is Pregnancy skin?

Pregnant and suddenly dealing with skin you barely recognise? That is not unusual. During pregnancy, your skin changes from within due to strong hormonal fluctuations and increased blood volume.

You may get that well-known pregnancy glow while also experiencing blemishes, redness, sensitivity or pigmentation spots. And what affects your skin during the first trimester may be completely different later in your pregnancy.

Pregnancy skin is therefore a true skin mood: changeable, hormonal and sometimes quite unpredictable.

How do you recognise Pregnancy skin?

Your skin can show different signs during pregnancy:

✓ More blemishes
✓ Changes in sebum production
✓ Redness and visible small blood vessels
✓ Sensitive or reactive skin
✓ Pigmentation spots or melasma
✓ Skin that becomes irritated more easily
✓ Changes in the skin barrier
✓ Products that suddenly feel different on your skin

You do not need to experience all these changes at once. Every pregnancy is different, and your skin can even change from one trimester to the next.

Why does your skin change during pregnancy?

During pregnancy, several hormone levels rise significantly. This can also affect your skin.

Sebum production may increase, causing pores to become clogged more easily and blemishes to develop. At the same time, pigment production can become more active. This increases the chance of dark spots and the so-called pregnancy mask, also known as melasma.

Increased blood flow may also become visible as redness or small blood vessels. As a result, your skin can suddenly feel much more reactive than it did before pregnancy.

It is also important to remember that some ingredients from your previous routine are not suitable during pregnancy, including vitamin A/retinol.

Pregnant? Your routine can change too

Pregnancy is not the time to automatically keep using the same products simply because they have always worked well for you. Your skin changes, and some ingredients are not suitable for a pregnancy skincare routine.

Take a fresh look at what your skin needs and choose targeted, pregnancy-appropriate support.

Your skin is glowing, but it is also working harder than ever. Give it the care that fits this stage. #ProofLooksBetter
